CECA
Other Events
CECA Organizes as well as participate in various events around the City of Calgary. Some of the many events that reoccur on a regular basis include the Calgary Stampede and Afrikadey Festival.
Calgary Stampede

The Calgary Stamepde is a western heritage annual festival held in the first week of July in Calagry. The Calgary Ethiopian Community Association (CECA) has been actively involved with the Calgary Stampede Parade for the past three years. In 2014 the association entered a float and won the annual Parade Prize for the Best Entry in Prelude. As a community, CECA values the opportunity to be involved in the Stampede because it provides a chance to showcase Ethiopian culture and heritage as part of the multicultural fabric of Calgary.

Afrikadey Festival
Africans from all nationalities and cultures living in Calgary have been participating in the annual Afrikadey festival, which takes place every year in August. The local Ethiopian community and CECA have been involved in this cultural festival for over 15 years. The festival hosts numerous African musicians, vocalists, dancers and other visual artists to showcase African arts and culture to Calgarians. This is one of Calgary’s most popular and long running summer festivals, attended by thousands of Calgarians at large. CECA members and other volunteers have been involved with organization, production, performance and other aspects of this popular summer event.
