The Calgary Ethiopian Community Association is a non-profit organization that was established in 1982 and registered in 1983 to organize and promote Ethiopian cultural and social activities, and to provide resettlement and integration support for immigrants of Ethiopian origin.

In accordance with its Bylaws, the Association is a non-political and non-religious organization, and its programs and social services are provided without taking political affiliation, ethnic origin, race, gender, and age into consideration. At any moment, the Association denounces the use of political and religious differences as a means to discourage members from active participation.

Generally, the Association strives to provide a forum for all members to practice and perform their culture with a positive awareness of diversity and plurality. It also encourages members to learn and understand the values and traditions of all people in Calgary, as well as the foundation and cultural mosaic that made Canada a country of great prosperity and stability. At present, the Association’s focus programs include youth development, senior programs and community dialogues. Occasionally, the Association organizes art and language training programs for children.

Annually, the Association participates in outdoor activities such as the Calgary Stampede and Afrikadey. For each and every social and cultural program, the Association depends on the participation, volunteering and generous assistance of its members and partners.

In accordance with the Bylaws, the Association's leadership consists of seven elected board members to oversee the Association's assets and overall wellbeing, as well as manage execution of operations. These seven elected members include three Board Officers and four Board Directors.
